Structural Integrity Field (SIF)

The Structural Integrity Field (or SIF) protects a ship / base from collapsing due to it's sheer mass.
It's composition is in part the object's skeletal structure, (I.E. framework) strengthened by a series of force fields.
It is similar to the Shield system, but is not reduced by attacks unless / until the attack exerts direct pressure on the hull itself.

In the event of a hull breach the SIF creates force fields to seal the breach to preserve life support.
NOTE - this is not the same as Security Force Fields!
