Operations

Ranks listed are the ideal for that position. An individual possessing one rank below the rank listed may hold that position in an 'acting' capacity until he or she is promoted or replaced.

Chief Operations Officer (COO)

The Chief Operations Officer has the primary responsibility of allocating all ship resources based on priority.  OPS coordinates everything from sensor usage, routine system maintenance and repairs to avoid resource conflicts.  S/he can curtail shipboard functions if s/he thinks they will interfere with the ship's current mission or routine operations.  Can tie in with any ship system to operate it as needed.  The Chief Operations Officer is a Department head, and a member of the Senior Staff.

Officer: Lieutenant Junior Grade (LTJG)*

Assistant Chief Operations Officer (ACOO)

The Chief Operations Officer cannot man the bridge at all times. Extra personnel are needed to relieve and maintain ship operations.  All Operations Officers are thus assistants to the Chief, fulfilling his/her duties when required, and assuming the Operations consoles if required at any time. The Assistant Chief Operations Officer reports to the Chief Operations Officer.

Officer: Ensign (ENS)*

Boatswain (BSN)

The Boatswain (pronounced or written "Bosun" or "Bos'n") trains and supervises personnel (including civilians/passengers) in base or shipboard operations, repairs and protocols.  Maintains duty assignments for Enlisted Operations personnel, and sets the agenda for instruction on general base / ship operation and function.  Coordinates personnel cross-trained in damage control, and supervises emergency damage control operations.  May assume the OPS position on the bridge if required, and can act as OPS Chief or Assistant if required.  The Boatswain reports to the Assistant and/or Chief Operations Officer.

Flight Deck Operations Officer (FCOPS)

The Flight Deck Operations Officer oversees the operations that are undertaken in the shuttlebays and maintenance bay that is part of the ship or facility. All requests for launch and landing clearance must pass to the Flight Deck Operations Officer, who in turn must pass on requests to the Operations Officer manning the bridge.

Logistics/Supply Officer (OLS)

The Logistics and Supply Officer (also referred to as the Materials Officer) is responsible for maintaining stocks and inventory of spare parts and equipment aboard Starfleet installations and vessels.  S/he is also responsible for replicator usage and stock, and fabrication of any ship components that are not available through other sources.  All non-standard requests for replicator usage (beyond normal supplies) must be processed through the L/S office and may require approval from a Command Officer.  The Logistics/Supply Officer reports to the Chief Operations Officer.
